Roma Patel is especially interested in collaborative and multidisciplinary productions. Her work includes set and projection designs for theatre, art direction and set visualisation for film and digital installation art. In last few years her work has focussed on the Site-Specific Theatre and the potential of digital technology within the performance space.

Graduating in Set Design for Stage and Screen from Wimbledon School of Art, Roma went on to investigate the possible use of digital technology for the purposes of theatre set design for her MA at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design,UCE. After a period in the Netherlands , where she started to explore real-time software in her own work, Roma returned to the UK in 2004 to complete work on her first artist-curatorship, 'The Living Image', for the London International Festival of Theatre. This real time 3d interactive installation, the result of collaboration with 2 other artists, was exhibited at the Dana Centre, London Science Museum in 2004.

Roma has designed sets and projections for several Theatre companies in UK and Europe since 1998. Her most recent designs includes the sets for a site-specific production of The Tempest (2006) and The Merchant of Venice( 2005) for Corcadorca Theatre company , Cork . She has worked with Manchester Library Theatre as visual artist (stage projections for 'Merlin' and 'The Real Thing').The Desperate Optimists worked with Roma to develop 3D computer visualisations for their short film in Town Hall set in West Bromwich . Roma is also a lecturer at Nottingham Trent University and has worked as a visiting lectuer on the theatre courses at Central St Martins College of Art and design, Rose Bruford College , and Loughbrough University She has presented papers on interactivity and theatre in Britain and Germany.
