- Using different layers allows you the freedom to adjust and alter areas within the figure and costume, without having to redraw everything. For example, I painted an opaque shadow in a layer over the material to give the dress more depth. I can alter this any time in the process. Layers can also be turned off and on for viewing different combinations in your design.
